This is what Iran’s rainwater drainage system (“jub” in
Persian) looks like:
So yes, Iran’s rainwater drainage system is not underground,
but rather, right out in the open! This creates two problems – the first, crossing
onto a street, the second, trash.
In Iran, parallel parking is the norm (upcoming post about
that!) so when you want to exit a car from the street’s side to go
shopping/eating/doing whatever on a boulevard, you have to be careful not to
fall into a jub! Some jubs are wide and deep, and the thought of falling in
them is scary.
Iran is not a dirty country by any means, but people do
misuse jubs as trash cans (as is visible in the first picture!). Not the purpose of jubs!
I will not miss Iran’s out in the open rainwater drainage
system.
