Iranians as a whole are an easy-going, flexible bunch.
Twenty minutes late for your doctor’s appointment? Ultimately, not much of an issue. Little
cousin you got on a ride with at the amusement park is terrified and starts
crying? You’ll willingly get a free ticket for a more kid-friendly ride (which
was actually quite fast and made my neck hurt a bit, but still, it’s the
thought that counts, and my cousin enjoyed it) from the attendant – no asking
involved. (This actually happened to me last week – the free ticket would NEVER have happened in the States):
Unlike societies like Japan, Iran doesn’t prioritize timeliness and orderliness. People here just go with the flow and
take things as they come. Especially in a city like Tehran, this attitude
causes things to get chaotic a good chunk of the time, but that’s what keeps
things interesting.
People here aren’t uptight. They’re understanding in a way I
haven’t seen anywhere else.
I will miss the flexibility and easy-goingness of the
Iranian people.
